About Us
Woody's Day Nursery is an independently run childcare facility which is based within Kirby Primary School grounds in Kirby Cross, Essex. We are seperate from the school which means your child does not have to attend the school when they reach primary school age.
Woody's is the only day nursery in Kirby Cross and caters for children in Kirby Cross, Frinton, Walton, Kirby-le soken, Thorpe le soken, Little Clacton, Clacton and Great Holland areas.
We opened on June 5th 2006 and have since gone from strength to strength.
We offer sessional and full day care for children aged 2-5 years and are open Monday - Friday, 8.30am - 5.30pm, 50 weeks a year. We also offer totally FREE funded sessions for eligible 3 and 4 year old children. Please call for details.
We are open even when the main school is closed, as we are totally independent from the primary school itself. We are open during half terms and summer holidays.
We have one week off for Easter and one week off over Christmas.*(subject to change), plus bank holidays.
We now offer special £5 holiday sessions. This is for any parent who has a child in pre-school who still needs childcare when pre-schools are closed. This session is from 9.00-12.00 and includes a healthy snack and 3 hours of educational fun.
We also offer a unique school time session which helps parents who have older children in any of the schools in the area. This offers a one stop drop off time of 9 till 3, for parents with children of differing ages.
We are a small village nursery and are registered for 16 children at any one time. Being a smaller group offers your child more one to one time with our caring staff each day. This gives you the reassurance that your child/children are getting the best care possible.
We are members of the Pre-school learning alliance and follow the new early years foundation stage curriculum teaching the many areas of learning. These include problem solving, reasoning and numeracy, creativity, communication, language and literacy, physical, personal, social and emotional development and knowledge and understanding of the world.
All these areas of learning are achieved through play with fun activities suited to the age groups.
Your child has their own developmental milestones folder and a special learning journey book which they recieve at the end of their nursery education with us. The younger children also have a parent/home diary in which staff write about what your child has been doing during the day and add any reward stickers that they may have got for special jobs such as tidying, potty training or washing up, being kind etc. This book also offers parents the chance to write any comments or concerns back to staff.
We also offer home visits for any children with any dificulties they may have. This gives good partnership with parents and builds communication and relationships with parents, which we feel is of great importance to us. You as parents are extremely important to us and we will therefore go out of our way to help in any way we can when ever possible.
We do have a key person system in place so every child and parent have a more personal relationship with members of staff.
Our nursery benefits from having a book corner, large caterpillar to go over and through, wet/sand play area, home corner, dining area, toilet facilities, a safe and secure outside play area that has been extended to double the size, with bikes, trikes, scooters, cars, slides, playhouse, sand pit and many more toys, and best of all, lots of space for your child to play and have lots of fun exploring and learning!!
We also have usage of the school field when the bigger children have gone home and when the school is shut which the nursery children love! Children are fully supervised at all times.
There is also a dressing up trolley, creative table, computer area on our new laptop with many educational games installed, permanent drawing table with crayons, colouring pencils and crayons, stencils and paper, role play equipment and all toys are chosen for their educational value so as to give your child an exciting and stimulating play whilst they are learning.
All our equipment is tested regularly and is completely safe. Your child is in no danger with faulty or broken toys. All toys and equipment are regularly checked and risk assessments are carried out each day with a full risk assessment carried out yearly.
Any other electrical equipment is regularly checked by a qualified electrician.
We have many policies in place at the nursery including; child protection, special educational needs, settling in and confidentiality. All policies are available in
full to parents to peruse at any time. Our most recent Ofsted report is also made available
to parents to view. This can also be viewed on the Ofsted website.
