Childcare vouchers are one of the ways in which employers can assist their employees with the costs of childcare. Since 6 April 2005, childcare vouchers (up to a limit of £55 a week, or £243 a month) are exempt from National Insurance Contributions (NIC) for employers, and from tax and NICs for employees - employers therefore reduce some of their business costs and employees make savings on their childcare costs.
Paper childcare vouchers can be used to pay for childcare just like cash as the parent has converted salary directly into vouchers to make Tax and NI savings.
"E-Vouchers" are an alternative to paper vouchers and enable parents to authorise payments to their chosen carer using a quick, simple and efficient electronic account.
Parents can initiate payments either by telephone or a secure internet site. They are exactly the same as any other payment that is transferred directly into the chidcare provider's bank account.
